Natural writing
Autocorrect is allowed.
WPM Speed measures real-world composition speed, not spelling-test performance.
Your finished output
Operating-system autocorrect, browser spell correction, automatic capitalization, and normal text replacements can help you write. We allow them. The final characters they produce contribute to Freeform WPM, just as they contribute to an email or message you finish writing.
Your keyboard activity
An automatic replacement is not a burst of physical typing. Active Typing WPM and Fastest Typing Burst use observed text-producing key presses, or conservatively estimated text-input activity on mobile. A replacement never adds its full character count to those metrics. Corrections made automatically also do not count as Backspace or Delete presses.
Mobile estimates
Some phone keyboards and composition tools expose text updates instead of individual key presses. Each eligible update contributes at most one estimated typed character, even when a suggestion or swipe inserts a whole word. Identified automatic replacements and duplicate composition commits add none. Active speed, bursts, and pauses are labeled Estimated on screen and in shared results.
These estimates can undercount swipe typing, word suggestions, and dictation. They describe the activity the browser can observe. If only automatic replacements are reported and no typing activity is observable, timing metrics remain unavailable. Your finished-output score still works.
